I help individuals, families and professional advisers from all over the UK deal more effectively with assets and liabilities in Spain.
I read Law and Spanish Law at the University of Kent with the third of my four-year degree spent at the Universidad de Deusto in Bilbao, Spain. I qualified in 2002 and am one of a handful of English-trained solicitors with recognised specialism in cross-border private client law.
Most of my time these days is spent on:
- Tax-efficient administration of Spanish estates following death, including when inheritances are being disputed
- Will-drafting to avoid unexpected outcomes arising from differences between English and Spanish inheritance law
- Advising on how best to manage Spanish estates following loss of mental capacity
- Tax-efficient transfers of shares in Spanish property triggered by family breakdown and buy-outs between co-owners and family members
I’m regularly asked to bridge gaps on matters where Spanish professionals have already been appointed, typically to:
- help quickly authorise them to deal with your Spanish affairs (under Spanish Power of Attorney)
- certify important differences between English and Spanish law
- identify requirements for English Court Orders to administer Spanish estates and co-ordinate related Court applications
- trouble shoot problems arising from language and cultural barriers
I also have experience dealing with Cape Verde, the Caribbean, Croatia, Dubai, Germany, Morocco, Switzerland and Turkey. If our team at Marc White & Co can’t help you in these countries or elsewhere, we can usually put you in touch with someone who can.
